Poetry is Serious Fun
Poetry is Serious Fun I got to know Russell Crabtree when I joined the White Rose Male Voice Praise Choir based in Castleford. He sings first tenor, I sing second tenor. Russell is a bit of a talent when it comes to poetry and prose and often recites a couple of his poems when the choir is performing. This book published in 2015 is a compilation of many of those poems, self-published along with some of his sketches and at £5 per copy the proceeds go to funds for the choir. It usually gets a laugh, egged on by members of the choir, when Russell trys to sell his book during the performance. Russell is a Christian, as are all the other members of the choir so you will find included a number of thought provoking poems that come from his strong faith in God. Here's one...
Gods Temple
You are in God's temple
God has given it to you
But remember
God wants to live there too
Let him wonder around the place
comb his hair, wash his face
Let him into every room
Let him join in every meal
In consultation
Tell him how you really feel
He wants to clean every nook and crack
Maybe sweep the chimney stack
And pamper you for a special treat
He'll take a towel and wash your feet
This temple don't despise
It's got ears and it's got eyes
It's got feet and hands
And still there's work to do
This temple, God has given to me and you
